Mr Trump, Build No Wall around the AMAZING food at THE MEXICAN Bangkok

The Mexican Bangkok Restaurant Review | thaifoodies.co

Thai food is wonderful. No dispute there, but when you live in Thailand or even if you vacation for more than a few days you will soon seek alternatives to the venerable Thai dishes you love. Likewise, the Thaifoodies team decided on a different fare for our weekend visit - Mexican food at THE MEXICAN

"The Mexican has an uber chill vibe with definite party overtones!"

Located in Sukhumvit Soi 2, The Mexican is a short 5 minute walk from the Ploenchit BTS station, right around the corner from The JW Marriott Hotel. When we arrived this past Saturday we were expecting to review some good food and drink but discovered that The Mexican offers much more than that. If I were to sum up this cool eatery in a statement I'd say that The Mexican has an uber chill vibe with definite party overtones!

I really enjoyed my experience at The Mexican and here's why.... 1) The decor is amazing, especially when you go in the evening and view the design in the correct, subdued lighting...it's stunning! 2) the food - from the Wet Burrito to the Queso Fundido and Chips (my fav) you CANNOT go wrong at The Mexican, every dish was as good if not better than the last, 3) the atmosphere - this one is a bit difficult to describe but I really got the feeling that there is always a party, just waiting to break out at The Mexican and we got to see this first hand during our visit.

Check out our video review below for a feel of The Mexican.

Regarding the decor - from The Mexican Website

"El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is the Mexican traditional celebration of the Circle of Life and their eagerness to embrace death in joyous festivities to remember, honor and party with their loved ones’ spirits. In keeping with this joyous celebratory theme, we serve you with the best authentic food and spirits Mexico has to offer – only here at… ‘The Mexican’."

"La Calavera Catrina (‘Dapper Skeleton’, ‘Elegant Skull’) is a 1910–1913 zinc etching. The image depicts a female skeleton dressed only in a hat befitting the upper-class outfit of a European of her time. She is offered as a satirical portrait of those Mexican natives who were aspiring to adopt European aristocratic traditions. She serves as a reminder that death is a fate that even the rich can’t avoid. Today’s La Catrina has come to ‘The Mexican’ with the spiritual marigold floral crown in the image of the Aztec Goddess Mictlantecuhtli (the First Lady of the Dead) to celebrate the Circle of Life here in Bangkok…"

"We whetted our whistles well..."

We may have gone a bit overboard but that's our want being foodies and all! We started with a pitcher of frozen margaritas. I'm not a tequila expert yet but a few more visits to The Mexican and I think I will be. They take their tequila very seriously - stop reading this and go there now for your education! - Just kidding please keep reading!

We had to sample some of the Mexicali beer as well. I've actually never had this particular brew before - they also have Mexicali light! The homemade sangria went down smoothly too! Needless to say we whetted our whistles well....

Now, on to the food and oh my goodness there are some great eats to be had at The Mexican.

The Queso Fundido is my favorite. The cheesy but subtle cheese dip was creamy with just the right amount of spicy when topped with pork chorizo. Chips and salsa are alway a necessity and these were quickly devoured with our first margarita. The bacon wrapped prawns were divine - just the right amount of spicy with the bacon and prawn balanced to perfection.

A dish I'd never tried before was the Wet Burrito. Tender and tasty shredded chicken on the inside with spicy pork chorizo, sour cream and cheese on the outside all wrapped in a tissue-soft tortilla shell - exquisite! A mexican staple is the taco - we opted for soft chicken tacos first. These were scrumptious with the black olives giving a different but welcome flavor to this traditional dish.

We sampled a good selection of the menu with some mouth-watering appetizers thrown in the mix - all were gone in a flash washed down with the super cold Mexicali beer! Chicken Taquitos, Deep fried Jalapeno peppers stuffed with cheese and served with 2 spicy sauces (AWESOME!) followed by crunchy hard-shell chicken tacos - all gone in scant minutes!

Our last dish of the evening is tied with the Queso Fundido as our favorite. Prawn Fajitas served with cheese, guacamole and sour cream - these were heavenly! You have to check out of video review to get our reactions but please trust us - YOU MUST ORDER THIS DISH!

Things got a bit fuzzy towards the end of out time a The Mexican. Beer was being swigged, toes tapping to Mexican tunes and laughter ringing out across the room. We went for lunch and in the end had a celebration of great food, drink and most importantly a great FOODIE DISCOVERY!

The Mexican is a MUST if you like delicious Mexican food in one very chic space.

A big shout out to our hostess (and proprietor) Bonnie for making the thaifoodies team feel welcome and ensuring that we had a FANTASTIC time!
