The Erawan Tea Room Bangkok - Elegant and Unique - Thai Afternoon Tea - 2017 New Review

Erawan Tea Room Review | thaifoodies.co

Benjamin Franklin is oft quoted "Eat to Live, Don't Live to Eat." Sound advice certainly but there are exceptions to this truism. Everyone should make an effort to indulge and pamper themselves from time to time and the thaifoodies team did just that with Afternoon Tea at The Erawan Tea Room this past weekend and oh my goodness did we ever indulge!

"Benjamin Franklin is oft quoted "Eat to Live, Don't Live to Eat." Sound advice certainly but there are exceptions."

The Erawan Tea Room is located in the 2nd Floor of Erawan Plaza which is attached to the 5 Star Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on Rajdamri road in Bangkok. This is an idea location for people visiting for business or pleasure due to the close proximity to the BTS skytrain station at Chidlom but also, and perhaps more importantly, the Grand Hyatt is dead center for the best shopping in Bangkok being no more than 5-10 minutes walk from: Central World, Siam Paragon, Gaysorn Village, Amarin Plaza, Central Embassy, and Siam Discovery to name only the bigger malls, there are countless other small shops in the vicinity calling out for your custom.

At the time of this writing we are nearing the end of March 2017 and while Thailand enjoyed a few cool days this month the heat has ramped back up in Bangkok with low to mid 90's and high humidity quickly becoming the norm. Now, imagine yourself enjoying hours of shopping - hopping from one great destination to the other but after a few hours of great bargains the coffee is wearing off, the heat is taking its toll and that quick lunch you grabbed on the go is proving to be insufficient. The Erawan Tea room has JUST what you need.....

"Everyday at 2:30 The Erawan Tea Room offers an elegant, indulgent escape into an oasis of cool relaxation with sophisticated cuisine - a unique Thai experience that is a MUST DO when visiting Bangkok."

While the thaifoodies team set out to explore Afternoon Tea at The Erawan Tea Room we did not limit ourselves to only the tea set - we decided to explore a few other Thai selections from the artfully crafted a la carte menu as well . We began with a cold tea to start - a tall glass of Cranberry tea for me and lovely pot of Pandan and Lemongrass tea for our critic Babe.

Hot Tea at The Erawan Tea room arrives with scones - as is only right! Babe's tea arrived with two ginger scones served with raspberry sauce and clotted cream - simply divine!

Before our tea set arrived we opted for a few appetizers to jump start our taste buds!

Butterfly pea Flower dumplings stuffed with crabmeat and topped with roast garlic and tender boneless chicken roasted in fragrant Pandan leaves served with a light, sweet sesame sauce. Almost too pretty to eat!

Pork Satay with peanut sauce and thai chili, red onion, and cucumber vinegar sauce. A classic Thai dish that can be found on just about any street corner but the Erawan Tea Room makes this simple dish an exercise in class using on the best quality ingredients to make the ordinary - extraordinary!

We were fortunate as the wonderful Grand Hyatt and Erawan Tea room team allowed us to sample the current Afternoon Tea offering (pictured above) but also to get a sneak peek of what is coming up for April (see below)...

During our visit we were honored to have the Erawan Tea Room Head Chef Khun Atchara stop by our table to talk to us about menu and what inspires her to create such gastronomic delights.

Before departing Chef Atchara suggested we try a new dish that is now available at The Erawan Tea Room - Roasted Prawn in Chuchee curry

We thought that were stuffed but when this beautiful dish arrived we found our mouths watering again. The prawn was cooked to perfection, so tender and sweet, with the Chuchee curry accenting instead of overpowering the overall flavour! Thank you Chef Atchara for your recommendation. The thaifoodies team suggests you hurry and try this dish before the promotion runs out! You will thank us!
