Spasso Restaurant and Bar | thaifoodies.co

Thaifoodies recently joined the fun for Spasso’s Masquerade Party at the 5 star Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok. Spasso creates a new party theme on the last Friday of every month and for our visit it was all about masks, live music, and some Amazing Italian cuisine from Spasso’s new Chef Roberto Parentela.

Spasso in the lower lower lever (LL) of the Grand Hyatt Erawan is one of Bangkok’s swankiest hot spots serving up high quality potables, incredible cuisine and some of Bangkok’s hottest live music. It is the place to see and be seen in Bangkok. Spasso’s massive bar is surrounded by small, intimate tables where you and that someone special may enjoy a romantic dinner or hot evening on the dance floor – up to you! Low pink lighting, and harlequin masks adorned the Spasso restaurant and bar for our outing, a whimsical theme that was embraced by all – such fun!

As foodies we have the enviable opportunity to sample so many different types of cuisine in Bangkok but Italian is by far the one closest to this writer’s heart, beside Thai that is, so when we learned that Spasso has installed a new, young Chef from Northern Italy we had to put the party on hold and dig into the menu – priorities and all that….

Our evening started with some very yummy bread, BTW don’t skip it here at Spasso – made fresh daily and very good! We moved onto our appetizer which is a big Caesar salad with quail eggs and Spasso’s own Caesar dressing. A creative departure from traditional Caesar dressing and all the more delicious for it. The portion is huge but Babe and I managed to get through most of it! Fans of Caesar salad will absolutely enjoy.

Following our lovely salad was a beautiful Guazzetta di mare, a seasonal seafood soup that was brimming with fresh mussels, squid, and prawn in a delicate tomato base soup. If you are a seafood lover this one is for you. The fresh seafood flavors are all there in each magical spoonful – tasty and light – A Must Try!

Chef Roberto surprised us next with an incredible 6 month Parma ham served on freshly made pizza bread. It is always the simple dishes that take one by surprise and this was no exception. The parma has was exquisite and perfect resting atop the soft and slightly crispy pizza bread. Be sure to ask about this dish when you visit Spasso – you will love it!

What would a visit to Spasso be without trying a pizza? Straight out of the Spasso wood fired oven came a gorgeous Diavola Pizza. Again, sometime the simple dishes are best and this pie was incredible. You cannot go wrong with any pizza at Spasso but if you are a fan of salami the Diavola pizza will make your tummy happy – A Must try!

The great food did not stop coming out of the Spasso kitchen and soon we were presented with a Ploetta al forno, a slow roasted, corn fed baby chicken prepared with TRUFFLE BUTTER! . We opted for a half a chicken as we knew we would be eating a lot but you can order a whole chicken if you prefer. Served on a bed if sautéed summer veggies this chicken is inspired, so tender and juicy it will change the way you think about poultry! A great option for those that wish to eat a bit more healthy but still want to go for top-notch flavor. Another MUST TRY!

Our last entrée of the night was the most decadent! Filetto stile Rossini, a 120 day, grain fed Australian beef tenderloin topped with foie gras on a bed of baby spinach with cherry tomatoes! The beef was incredibly tender without being fatty. An overload of flavor when sampled with the delicate baby spinach and foie gras. A memorable dish that beef lover - AMUST TRY!

We wrapped up our Italian experience with a simple pasta dish of Rigatoni Aglia e olio, pasta with olive oil and garlic. Easy to eat and the perfect way to wind up our meal BEFORE dessert that is!

Chef Roberto served up his signature tiramisu for dessert, a layered tiramisu delight of chocolate and fresh strawberries. Yummy and perfect for Babe and I to wrap up our wonderful meal at Spasso.
