Babe stayed in a studio room #1027. These gorgeous 37 sq.m rooms start from 3,700 Baht ($115) per night feature free WiFi, safe, couch, mini-bar, and en suite bathroom all decorated in a contemporary style with a city view.
On the 11th floor of the Akyra is Som Tam and Chardonnay restaurant. From the Akyra Thonglor Bangkok website:
A bright, spacious dining destination based on an East Meets West concept with exquisite Thai cuisine complemented by international specials and a wide selection of fine wines to bring out the flavour of the freshest ingredients. The restaurant lives up to its name with no less than 5 different Som Tam dishes on the menu; Thailand’s famous green papaya salad, served with shrimp, soft shell crab, fish, Thai sausage or even as a mixed fruit platter. Som Tam & Chardonnay opens onto the expansive pool terrace and is also the venue for the daily gourmet breakfast, an indulgent spread providing a nourishing start to an inspiring day in the city.
The Thaifoodies team stopped by Som Tam and Chardonnay to sample their authentic Som Tam along with a variety of different Thai and international dishes all meticulously paired with a selection of fine wines from around the globe.
Hungry as always we ordered up a variety of dishes from the Som Tam and Chardonnay menu including
- Chef Oh's Mixed Garden Salad (340 Baht/$10.62)
- Som Tam Thai with sticky rice (220 Baht/$6.87)
- Roasted Organic Chicken (220 Baht/$6.87)
- Pad Krapow Ribeye (590 Baht/$18.43)
- Fresh Seabass with Quinoa Salad (450 Baht/$14.06)
- Caprese Salad (370 Baht/$11.56)
Our dishes were absolute scrumptious! The Som Tum was paired with a delicate Chilean Chardonnay that complimented pretty much all our selections. While most of the dishes were not overly spicy that most assuredly captured authentic Thai flavors. If you do want to have any of your dishes prepared on the spicy side then simply ask your server and Chef Oh will turn up the heat!
