WOMEN-FOR-WOMEN SCHOLARSHIPS & INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Scholarships to empower young chefs for qualified female students.

Program Director: Chef “PAM” Pichaya Soontornyanakij from Restaurant POTONG

Program Advisor: American Women’s Club of Thailand (AWC)

Background

According to recent studies and Industry Report coming from Chef Pencil, which is an international food magazine that was launched since 2009, has reported in July 2022 that women account for only 6% of executive chefs and head chefs in top restaurants. Also, women chefs often experience discrimination and inequality in the workplace, including lower pay and fewer opportunities for advancement.

Chef Pam believed that by starting this program, she can little-by-little address these issues and has two simple goal with its own solutions below:

1) To provide an opportunity for a talented young female student chef, who are in-needed of those help to gain valuable experience that may help them able to cope with competitive environment and kickstart their careers, giving higher chance to the community. This will be addressed by our WFW Internship program.

2) To enable help to those females in rural areas in needs for University-level education to fund their education and help them to be able to pursue their dreams. This will be addressed by our WFW Scholarship program.

AWC is a non-profit, non-political organization operated entirely by volunteers. Founded in Thailand in 1955, AWC has been sponsoring scholarships for Thai high school girls in need for 28 years. In that time, AWC has awarded over 10,000+ scholarships and given over 48,000,000 THB to help girls complete their high school education. 90.8% of those girls go on to university.

It has been a goal for AWC to grow into a program that also sponsors scholarships for university students from low-income families. With the help of EDF Thailand (The Education for Development Foundation Thailand) and collaboration with Chef Pam and the “WFW Program” gives both partners an opportunity to design a two-part program.

1) WFW Scholarship Program

2) WFW Internship Program

Through our fund-raising dinner, donations, and sponsors – Chef Pam, owner and executive chef of Restaurant POTONG, and The American Women’s Club of Thailand (AWC) will be able to donate this money to embark help for Thai University-level education females who are in-need for financial support across Thailand. The process will be done together with AWC and EDF Thailand (The Education for Development Foundation Thailand).
